Mermaid Street, Rye

Mermaid Street, Rye, is said to be one of the best known streets in the world. The sign of the golden mermaid hangs over the 15th century Mermaid Inn, the haunt of smugglers, including the notorious Hawkhurst gang. The cobbled street is one of many around the area known as the "Citadel".
